Mortal Shell 2 Patch Notes and Update History
Every Mortal Shell 2 patch tracked in one timeline — from Hotfix 1.0 through Rotten Autumn — with dates, console build numbers, and developer-published details. The newest release is Rotten Autumn, the game's largest free content update (version 1.000.014, October 20 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox): a Photo Mode, fifteen new dungeons, new Shades for every Shell, ten new Tarstones, a New Alternative Soundtrack by Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ, and seasonal extras. Before it, the fix-focused Hotfix 1.000.012 (October 14) rebalanced the Final Boss and swept up gameplay, summons, dungeon, and UI bugs — details in the sections below.
Mortal Shell 2 has been patched ten times between its August 2026 launch and Rotten Autumn on October 20 — two launch hotfixes, one balance pass, the Week 1 Update, the quietly shipped Hotfix 3 (September 1, announced on Reddit/Discord only), the Adaptive Difficulty update, the fix-only Hotfix 1.000.010, the cross-platform Hotfix 1.000.011, the fix-focused Hotfix 1.000.012, the PS5 platform hotfix (October 16), and now Rotten Autumn — the first major content update since the Week 1 Update. That cadence matters if you are deciding whether to start the game now or wait: the launch window was genuinely rough (crashes, shader stalls, progress softlocks), and most of the worst offenders were patched within the first three weeks; the October 14 hotfix continued that cadence with a Final Boss balance pass, and Rotten Autumn shifts gears from fixes to content. Reading the Mortal Shell 2 patch notes history below tells you not just what changed, but which problems the developer has already solved and which ones are still open.
Every entry on this page is sourced from developer announcements and cross-checked against console build numbers and press coverage. One caveat on sourcing: Hotfix 3 was announced only on Reddit and Discord — the Steam News feed carries no entry for it — so its entry cites the developer's Reddit post directly. Where a change is community-reported rather than confirmed in the developer's notes, we say so explicitly. We do not invent changelog lines, and we do not publish a Mortal Shell 2 next patch rumor round-up: if the developer has not announced it, it does not go on this page.
Rotten Autumn is live — Update 1.000.014 (Oct 20)
The game's largest free content update: Photo Mode, 15 new dungeons, 10 new Tarstones, and an alternative soundtrack.
Rotten Autumn, the game's largest free content update, went live on October 20 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox (version 1.000.014). It adds a Photo Mode, fifteen new dungeons (expanding the pool from 36 to 51), new Shades for every Shell, ten new Tarstones including a Sheep-exclusive stone, an alternative soundtrack performed by Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ, a Nightmode lighting preset, a new Overkill graphics setting, a pumpkin helmet for the Harbinger, and cryptic notes left by lost Shell ghosts — plus polish and bug fixes, with more content teased to come.
→ Full section-by-section breakdown: the Rotten Autumn timeline entry above and the patches linked from it
→ The new Photo Mode hides the HUD and frees the camera — and if toggling it alongside Frame Generation or the new Overkill setting triggers instability, the Phase 1 quick wins on the crashing fixes page cover the exact settings conflicts involved. (Announcement names no known issues with Photo Mode; this is general guidance, not a reported bug.)
→ Ten new Tarstones join the pool, including one exclusive to the Sheep — each is registered on the Tarstones guide with effect values pending in-game verification, so treat community numbers with caution until they are tested. (Numerical effects: null — the announcement names the count, not the values.)
→ Fifteen new dungeons expand the pool from 36 to 51, and community reports say the new content appears in existing saves after updating. If your game crashes on load after installing 1.000.014, confirm the update installed first, then try the load-crash workarounds on the crashing fixes page. (Existing-save compatibility: community-reported, not developer-confirmed.)
→ New Shades for every Shell plus ten new Tarstones mean established builds are worth re-evaluating — the build planner lets you rebuild your setup around the new pieces once their values are verified in-game.
→ Tarstone additions tracked on the Tarstones guide (new stones registered; effect values pending in-game verification)
Do you need to start a new run to find the new content?
(community-reported) Multiple players on the Steam discussions report that the new dungeons, Shades and Tarstones appear in existing runs after updating — no fresh start required. We are watching for contrary reports; if you cannot see the new content in an old save, confirm the update installed (version 1.000.014) first.
How do I turn on the Nightmode lighting or the Overkill setting?
(community-reported) Both are graphics-side options added by this update. Players report finding them in the display/graphics settings menu after updating. Exact menu naming and paths are being verified in-game; this note will be replaced with confirmed steps once checked.
Should I update my GPU drivers after this patch?
(community-reported) Several players recommend updating GPU drivers after installing Rotten Autumn, consistent with our general guidance for large patches that recompile shader caches — see the driver and shader-cache steps on the crashing fixes page. This is community advice, not a developer requirement.

A cross-platform hotfix: Egon's Stone dungeon-loading and Gloom-drop fixes, trophy/achievement fixes for "Seeking the Past" and "Bring My Ova Back to Me", elevator-lift collision fixes, the Orrem instant-kill fix, Severance soft-lock and Stray Genessa fixes, Clockwork Scythe elemental-effect fixes, Warden and Hexapod boss corrections, Adaptive Difficulty tier UI, and a new Low Latency Mode (NVIDIA Reflex / AMD Anti-Lag 2).
- Hotfix 1.000.012 — October 14, 2026 (PC on Steam; PS5 as build 1.000.012 per MP1st; Xbox Series). A fix-focused cross-platform hotfix: the Final Boss gets a balance pass (HP reduced, player cosmic disease resistance doubled, grab attack with more anticipation), summons and ally-damage fixes (Barrage + Solnir Shard no longer damaging allies, Astral Clones attacking near edges, Genessa Clones no longer getting stuck with Lost Clotstone), unblocked Gragu possession, the Mether's Breath second-warning soft-lock fix, seamless dungeon streaming and double-loading fixes, and rebuilt shader (PSO) caches and world HLODs.
- PS5 Hotfix — October 16, 2026 (PS5; Xbox and PC patches coming shortly, per the developer). A platform hotfix announced by the developer on Reddit (no Steam news announcement at verification time): "Fixed softlock when interacting with the collector" (verbatim from the notes) and stuttering addressed, including around death and pick-up moments. The same announcement re-confirms Bring My Ova Back to Me is still not fixed, with a fix planned for next week's patch. Confirmed as PS5 build 1.000.013.
- Rotten Autumn — October 20, 2026 (PC via Steam; PS5; Xbox Series X|S — version 1.000.014). The game's largest free content update: a new Photo Mode, fifteen new dungeons (expanding the pool from 36 to 51, per the press transcription of the announcement), new Shades for every Shell, ten new Tarstones including one exclusive to the Sheep, a New Alternative Soundtrack performed by Sakis Tolis of Rotting Christ replacing the original score, a Nightmode lighting preset and a new Overkill graphics setting, a pumpkin helmet for the Harbinger, an Impervious Lute skin with a new track, and cryptic notes left by lost Shell ghosts — plus polish and bug fixes, with more content teased.
Console players should note the build-number pattern: hotfixes and content patches land with a shared cross-platform version anchor, and platform-specific console hotfixes with no version number, like the Oct 16 PS5 patch, sit alongside the chain (1.000.006 → 1.000.008 → 1.000.009 → 1.000.010 → 1.000.011 → 1.000.012 → 1.000.014). When you see players cite "1.000.009" on PS5 or Xbox, they are talking about the Adaptive Difficulty update that hit PC on September 5; "1.000.010" is the September 14 hotfix, "1.000.011" is the September 24 hotfix, "1.000.012" is the October 14 hotfix, and "1.000.014" is Rotten Autumn (October 20). Rotten Autumn's PC-side build number is not separately stated in any collected source, so the cross-platform 1.000.014 anchor is used.
Improvements to address various crashes and other issues reported since launch. No detailed changelog — the developer said it resolved several of the crashes.
Misc crash fixes + stability and performance improvements; equipping the Slayer Seal from the Beacon menu no longer locks the UI; fixed Riposte 'stealing' enemy weapons.
PS5 adds input settings/save bug fixes, cult robe + weapon switch crash, and Change Equipment Slayer Seal crash fixes. Xbox includes all PS5 fixes + Devout Edition/pre-order skin entitlement fixes.
Economy, boss/enemy/weapon balance, Guard mechanics, Tarstone tuning + additional crash fixes. Buffed Parasitic, Grudge and Bulwark (damage reduction); Clerik's and Squall also buffed.
The first major patch. Economy rework: Glimpses and Tarcores are no longer finite. New Fragile Tarstones join the pool (Glimpse Stone, Egon's Stone; Justicar and Gloombound become Fragile variants), and Mether's Severance can now be handed to Zhirelle to reset a Shell's Bond. Heavy weapons get a broad boost — Obsidian Hammer and Great Martyr's Blade tuned up, the Trebuchaxe reworked, i-frames added to the Axatana. Many crash fixes (enemy spawning, audio, save loading, shutdown), a shader-stutter fix, a reworked Frame Generation, plus a new day-only Beacon and fast-travel point.
Console builds shipped as 1.000.008 on Sep 1 with the same content, including fixes for three progress softlocks: Vatra's Temple locking permanently after exploring it, potential crashes and softlocks during Lazlo's Rekindle, and a dialogue softlock with the tavern barkeep between Gragu's shell dying and reclaiming it. Known issue after the patch: the Malborn Offspring bug.
Hotfix addressing several bug reports: missing Shades, the FSR world-map issue, the giant spider blocking passage in the Citadel Annex, enemies not responding, collision fixes, and a Minibeacon visual fix.
Adds an experimental, opt-in Adaptive Difficulty setting (off by default, under Game > Game Settings): winning streaks raise enemy damage, health and stagger resistance beyond the usual difficulty ceiling, while struggling lowers them and caps how much of your health a single hit can take; Night Mode only ever steps up. The patch also fixes an Infinite Seal consecutive-block window, lets riposte get-ups apply status effects, buffs Sariel's Thornfall, Affliction and Agonize, stops a Genessa Augmentation interaction from granting unlimited Resolve, makes broken Fragile Tarstones return Tarcores, fixes Gloombound, and improves Gloom drop logic.
Community-reported (unconfirmed): players report an undocumented rebalance of the Duality Stone; exact values unconfirmed.

Announcement body carries no version number; 1.000.011 is console-build confirmation from MP1st (level 4). Section structure follows the announcement's five blocks (Major Bug Fixes / Player / Enemies and Bosses / UI / Optimization) — see conflicts CF-R4-01. Achievement fix scope: only the two named achievements are confirmed fixed — see conflicts CF-R4-02.
A cross-platform hotfix. Player and gameplay: fixed Barrage + Solnir Shard Tarstone dealing damage to allies, the Parasitic Stone exploit when switching between sheep and shell form, an issue where unequipping Egon's Stone could prevent Gloom loss, Tarstones not granting EXP for kills by player summons, Black Needle throw and infused stone being unable to aim or interact, several Slayer Seal/Punch issues, canceling Proxima's Shell ability stopping weapons being re-equipped, an issue that blocked Gragu from being possessed, Astral Clones not attacking when summoned close to an edge, Lost Clotstone for Genessa Clones using Obsidian Hammer getting stuck and staying forever, Cursed Child and Grisha summons being hit and targeted by Biosampler, Cursed Child summons being targeted by Sidearm, and spawned summons causing collision issues on big enemies and bosses. VFX and animation: new VFX for Tiel's Shadow Clones plus tweaks and fixes for Tiel's Poison Shadow Clones, a new explosion version for Droeg, the Conqueror, a Giant Spider FX pass with more feedback, force feedback, and camera shakes, and a new shell summon handshake animation with a small Gragu height tweak. Camera: improvements to camera collisions. Environment and performance: environment and collision bug fixes; general optimizations including castle stairs, mine pillars, tomb floors, and catacomb/iron maiden collision; optimized bear traps and fixed the wrong trap rotation during the disarm animation; rebuilt shader (PSO) caches and world HLODs.
Announcement body carries no version number; 1.000.012 is console-build confirmation, multi-sourced as of Oct 18: MP1st, UpdateCrazy's 1.000.012 page, and Asumetech's report agree (CF-R6-01 closed); the PC build number stays null. Section structure follows the announcement's eight blocks (Player & Gameplay 16 / Enemies & Bosses 7 / Dungeons 4 / UI 2 / Audio 2 / VFX & Animation 4 / Camera 1 / Environment and Performance 4) — see conflicts CF-R6-02. Numeric magnitudes not published by the developer (Final Boss HP reduction amount, ova-count context) stay null. A third party headline misdating 1.000.012 to the Sept 24 notes is logged as not adopted — see conflicts CF-R6-03.
A PS5 patch announced by the developer on Reddit (no Steam news announcement at verification time). Two named fixes: stuttering addressed, including around death and pick-up moments, and "Fixed softlock when interacting with the collector" (verbatim from the notes). The same announcement re-confirms Bring My Ova Back to Me is still not fixed, with a fix planned for next week's patch, and says Xbox and PC patches are coming shortly. The announcement itself carries no build number; the console build was confirmed as 1.000.013 by two secondary sources (MP1st and UpdateCrazy, both Oct 16).
Version adjudicated Oct 18 (CF-R8-01, resolved half): 1.000.013 is double-sourced at the secondary level (MP1st + UpdateCrazy), following the 1.000.011/1.000.012 precedent, so the number is now written as 1.000.013 (PS5). Still open under CF-R8-01: whether the missing-trade-UI form of #54 (UI never appears, versus the named softlock form) is covered by this patch has not been stated by anyone. Fix lines follow the announcement's own wording; the stutter fix scope is stated only as covering death and pick-up moments. UpdateCrazy's claim that the patch is already live on PS5, Xbox and PC contradicts the developer's PS5-first wording and is not adopted (CF-R9-01); Xbox/PC stay pending. Related entry updates: fixes #54 (PS5 fix published, PC/Xbox pending — status stays investigating) and #24 (Ova still unfixed, fix planned next week — status stays partial). Upgrade path: when the Steam-side announcement or PC patch notes land, re-verify wording and bump source_level.
Rotten Autumn, a large free content update, is now live. A new Photo Mode lets players capture and frame their runs. Fifteen new dungeons join the game, expanding the dungeon pool from 36 to 51 (nearly a 50% increase; the 36-to-51 figure follows the press transcription of the announcement). Every Shell receives new Shades. Ten new Tarstones are added, including one exclusive to the Sheep. A New Alternative Soundtrack performed by Sakis Tolis, vocalist of Rotting Christ, replaces the original score. On the graphics side, the update adds a Nightmode lighting preset and a new Overkill setting. Seasonal treats include a pumpkin helmet for the Harbinger and an Impervious Lute skin with a new track, and lost Shell ghosts can now leave cryptic notes. The update also ships polish and bug fixes, and the announcement closes by teasing more to come.
Follows the PS5 Hotfix 1.000.013 (Oct 16) sequence as the first cross-platform major version since 1.000.011-013. Numerical values beyond the announcement's own counts (15 dungeons, 36-to-51 pool, 10 Tarstones) are null pending in-game verification. The announcement's closing line 'there is no sheep dungeon' is a developer joke, not a content line. More content is teased in the announcement; no schedule given.
When is the Mortal Shell 2 next patch?
What has actually been announced — and what has not.
As of October 21, 2026, Cold Symmetry has not announced a dated Mortal Shell 2 next patch. What is known: Rotten Autumn (Update 1.000.014, October 20) shipped with the announcement teasing more content to come but giving no schedule; the earlier Bring My Ova Back to Me achievement fix the developer said was planned for "next week's patch" has not been named as fixed in any announcement we have verified. Beyond that, everything we can honestly tell you about what comes next comes from the known issues that are still unfixed.
First, the resolved item: the visual cue for Adaptive Difficulty that press coverage of the September 5 patch said was in development shipped in Hotfix 1.000.011 as UI support for Adaptive Difficulty tiers — that thread is closed, and our Adaptive Difficulty page has the details.
Second, the open issues. Our crash fix center still tracks crash issues sitting at Workaround or Pending status after the October 14 patch — Hotfix 1.000.012 named no tracked crash entry, and Rotten Autumn's "polish and bug fixes" line names no tracked crash entry either (its rebuilt content additions do not change crash statuses), so statuses stay unchanged pending community recurrence data. History is a rough guide here: the gap between the Week 1 Update and the Adaptive Difficulty update was one week, the gap to Hotfix 1.000.010 was nine days, the gap to Hotfix 1.000.011 was ten, the gap to Hotfix 1.000.012 was nineteen, and Rotten Autumn followed six days later. If a Mortal Shell 2 next patch follows a similar cadence, pending crash fixes and follow-up fixes for Rotten Autumn are the most likely content — but that is an inference from the fix backlog, not an announcement, and we will not dress it up as one.
This page is our promise on that front: the moment Cold Symmetry publishes details of the Mortal Shell 2 next patch, this timeline gets a new entry — within 24 hours. Check back here first; we would rather update this page late and accurate than early and wrong.
Hotfix 1.0 — August 17, 2026
The first Mortal Shell 2 patch: crash triage during Advanced Access.
Hotfix 1.0 shipped on August 17 while the game was still in its Advanced Access pre-launch phase, published by XBIGY on behalf of developer Cold Symmetry. It rolled out through a Steam beta branch before becoming the default build. The patch addressed crashes and other issues reported since the earliest players got in — but Cold Symmetry did not publish a detailed changelog for this one, saying only that it resolved several of the reported crashes. If you were playing during Advanced Access and noticed early hard crashes disappear, this was the Mortal Shell 2 patch that did it.
Hotfix 2.0 — August 18–19, 2026
Launch-week stability pass across PC, PS5 (1.000.006), and Xbox.
Hotfix 2.0 landed a day later, in the middle of launch week, and it was the first Mortal Shell 2 patch with a platform split: PC got it directly, PS5 shipped as build 1.000.006, and Xbox followed with the same content. The core of the patch was stability — miscellaneous crash fixes and performance improvements — plus two specific gameplay fixes: equipping the Slayer Seal from the Beacon menu no longer locks the UI, and a riposte no longer "steals" an enemy's weapon.
The console builds carried extra work. PS5 1.000.006 added input settings fixes, save bug fixes, a fix for a crash tied to the cult robe and weapon switching, and a fix for the Change Equipment Slayer Seal crash. The Xbox build included everything in the PS5 patch plus fixes for Devout Edition and pre-order skin entitlements — a common pain point for players who bought the premium edition and found their cosmetics missing at launch.
Balance Patch 1 — August 22–23, 2026
Economy, Guard mechanics, and the first weapon balance pass.
Balance Patch 1 went live on PC on August 22 and reached PS5 on August 23; the exact Xbox timing was not confirmed in the sources we track, which is why this entry carries that caveat. It was the first Mortal Shell 2 patch focused on how the game plays rather than whether it runs: economy adjustments, boss and enemy balance, weapon balance, Guard mechanics changes, and Tarstone tuning, alongside additional crash fixes.
On the buff side, the Parasitic, Grudge, and Bulwark Tarstones received damage-reduction improvements, and the Clerik's and Squall weapons were also buffed. That matters if you are following our weapon tier list: several placements there were re-evaluated after this patch and then again after the Week 1 Update's heavy-weapon rework. Balance Patch 1 is also where the developer's patch-notes discipline got thinner — our entry for this update is cross-referenced from community and guide-site transcriptions (source level 3) rather than a developer-published post, so treat its fine detail as community-reported.
Week 1 Update — August 29, 2026
The first major patch: economy rework, Fragile Tarstones, heavy weapon buffs.
The Week 1 Update, published on Steam on August 29 and shipped to PS5 and Xbox as build 1.000.008 on September 1, is the largest Mortal Shell 2 patch so far. Its headline is the economy rework: Glimpses and Tarcores are no longer finite, which removes the launch-state anxiety around spending your permanent currency. New Fragile Tarstones joined the pool — the Glimpse Stone and Egon's Stone, with Justicar and Gloombound becoming Fragile variants — and Mether's Severance can now be handed to Zhirelle to reset a Shell's Bond, a quality-of-life change for build experimenters.
Combat-wise, heavy weapons got a broad boost: the Obsidian Hammer and Great Martyr's Blade were tuned up, the Trebuchaxe was reworked, and the Axatana gained i-frames. The patch also delivered a new day-only Beacon and fast-travel point, a reworked Frame Generation implementation (relevant if you have been using our Frame Generation crash workaround), and a long list of crash fixes covering enemy spawning, audio, save loading, and shutdown behavior, plus a shader-stutter fix.
Console build 1.000.008 shipped the same content and three progress softlock fixes worth calling out: Vatra's Temple no longer locks permanently after you explore it, potential crashes and softlocks during Lazlo's Rekindle are addressed, and a dialogue softlock with the tavern barkeep — triggered between Gragu's shell dying and reclaiming it — is fixed. One known issue emerged after this patch: the Malborn Offspring bug, which the community reported and which remained unresolved through the September 5 update.
Hotfix 3 — September 1, 2026
A quiet hotfix, announced on Reddit and Discord only — no Steam News entry.
Hotfix 3 shipped on PC on September 1, 2026, and it is the easiest patch to miss: unlike every other update, it was announced only on the game's Reddit and Discord channels, so it never appeared in the Steam News feed. The fix list is short and targeted — missing Shades were restored (some players had Shell-loadout entries vanish), the FSR world-map issue was fixed, and the giant spider blocking passage in the Citadel Annex no longer traps progress. The patch also addressed a report of enemies not responding, included general collision fixes, and delivered a Minibeacon visual fix.
None of these overlap with the crash and softlock entries in our fix tracker, so no tracked issue status changed with this patch. If you were hit by the missing-Shades bug or the Citadel Annex block, updating to Hotfix 3 or newer resolves it.
Adaptive Difficulty Update — September 5, 2026
Build 1.000.009: an experimental difficulty setting plus balance fixes.
The Adaptive Difficulty update, published on September 5 for PC and shipped to PS5 and Xbox as build 1.000.009, introduced an experimental, opt-in Adaptive Difficulty setting. It ships off by default and lives under Game > Game Settings. When enabled, winning streaks raise enemy damage, health, and stagger resistance beyond the usual difficulty ceiling, while struggling lowers them and caps how much of your health a single hit can take. Night Mode only ever steps the difficulty up. Because this setting is experimental and opt-in, it does not change the game for anyone who leaves it off — a distinction that matters for build and tier-list comparisons.
The rest of the patch is a mix of balance and systems fixes: an Infinite Seal consecutive-block window fix, riposte get-ups now applying status effects, buffs to Sariel's Thornfall and the Affliction and Agonize effects, a stop for a Genessa Augmentation interaction that granted unlimited Resolve, broken Fragile Tarstones now returning Tarcores, a Gloombound fix, and improved Gloom drop logic. If you want the full mechanical breakdown of the new setting — including what it means for builds — see our dedicated Adaptive Difficulty guide.
Hotfix 1.000.010 — September 14, 2026
A fix-only cross-platform hotfix with no new content.
Nine days after the Adaptive Difficulty update, Cold Symmetry shipped a fix-only hotfix (version 1.000.010 on PS5, simultaneous on PC and Xbox Series) with no new content. The headline fixes target two Shell problems: Proxima no longer gets stuck in her Biosampler animation, and Lazlo's Temperament perk can no longer be abused through its infinite glitch.
Tarstones got the largest share of attention. Mether's Severance can now be used at the Genessa trainer, the Colossus Stone's ability can be canceled mid-execution, and durability bugs on the Justiciar and Gloombound stones are fixed. An Egon's Stone Gloom exploit was closed — along with the dungeon-loading failure it could trigger — and spawning issues with the Grisha Remnant and Summon Stone were corrected.
On the boss side, the Hexapod's diving attack no longer fires after the creature has died, frozen enemies and bosses behave correctly again, the Twin Sester fight can no longer be exited after she spawns, and Starved Harridan no longer gets stuck and dies. NPC fixes cover Zhirelle ignoring the player in NG+, multiple Muttons spawning in the hub, sidearms damaging certain NPCs, and Genessa's dialogue and training tutorials. World fixes include the Citadel Annex traversal camera, death volumes in the Ashen Cathedral, a trap that could lock you in the dungeon after claiming Lazlo, and incorrect burn/stasis hazard values. The patch closes with general crash and stability improvements — the notes do not name any specific crash type, so our tracked crash issues (#5, #23) stay in pending/acknowledged until confirmed otherwise.

Hotfix 1.000.011 — September 24, 2026
A cross-platform hotfix: ten tracked fixes, tier UI, and a new Low Latency Mode.
Ten days after Hotfix 1.000.010, Cold Symmetry shipped another cross-platform hotfix (console build 1.000.011 per MP1st's coverage; the announcement body itself carries no version number, so the console figure is single-secondary-source). The major bug fixes target Egon's Stone — dungeons not loading correctly when using it, and it removing Gloom dropped in the open world — plus trophy/achievement issues with "Seeking the Past" and "Bring My Ova Back to Me", players falling through elevator lifts when walking into walls, Orrem the Reclaimed being killed instantly, and enemies becoming aggroed during miniboss fights.
On the player side, the hotfix fixes a soft lock when cancelling Mether's Severance with a gamepad and Stray Genessa not being interactable after using the ability (both Severance regressions are tracked as issue #33 in our fix center), an issue with Genessa's Faithful Doubles when using Lost Clotstone, Clockwork Scythe elemental effects not applying correctly, Harbinger shades and masks not displaying in the level-up tab, sheep attacks continuing after transforming back, the Slayer Seal becoming unresponsive (a second, distinct symptom form from the HF2.0 UI-lockup fix — issue #18), and small parts of Lazlo's leg clipping through armor. Boss corrections cover The Warden's jump timing, trigger boxes, and wall-jumping, and the player being pushed outside the Hexapod arena; the final boss's fire ring attacks were also tweaked.
The UI block is the one forward-looking part: the hotfix added UI support for Adaptive Difficulty tiers and updated the AD indicator with new, improved icons and a more visible night mode icon — closing the no-indicator gap we flagged on our Adaptive Difficulty page. Optimization adds a Low Latency Mode menu option (NVIDIA Reflex and AMD Anti-Lag 2), a fix for the missing VSync tooltip while Frame Generation is enabled, Hub shadow optimizations, and texture optimizations.

Hotfix 1.000.012 — October 14, 2026
A fix-focused cross-platform hotfix: Final Boss balance, summons cleanup, dungeon-streaming fixes, and rebuilt shader caches.
Nineteen days after Hotfix 1.000.011, Cold Symmetry shipped a cross-platform hotfix leaning on fixes rather than features (console build 1.000.012 per MP1st's coverage; the announcement body itself carries no version number, so the console figure is single-secondary-source — the same caveat we logged for 1.000.011). The headline item is Final Boss balance: his HP is reduced, the player's cosmic disease resistance is doubled, and his grab attack now has more anticipation, alongside fixes around the main bosses' phase change, improved hitboxes for Droeg, the Conqueror, and lock-on and Biosampler fixes for Bor, the Deluded Monarch.
The largest block targets player and gameplay bugs: Barrage + Solnir Shard Tarstone no longer damages allies, the Parasitic Stone exploit when switching between sheep and shell form is fixed, unequipping Egon's Stone can no longer prevent Gloom loss, Tarstones now grant EXP for kills by player summons, the Black Needle throw and infused stone can aim and interact again, several Slayer Seal/Punch issues are fixed (tracked as issue #49 in our fix center), canceling Proxima's Shell ability no longer stops weapons being re-equipped, Gragu can be possessed again (#52), Astral Clones attack when summoned close to an edge, and Genessa Clones no longer get stuck and stay forever with Lost Clotstone + Obsidian Hammer (#51). In the UI block, Mether's Breath gained multiple warning prompts and backing out of the second warning no longer soft-locks the game (#50).
Dungeons get an NG+ concession — 3 extra collectible ovas in the final slice dungeon — plus an enemy-count fix on The Last Siege, a fix for slow-streaming dungeons with "seamless dungeon streaming" enabled, and a fix for double dungeon loading. The environment and performance block is the one crash-adjacent part: collision fixes across castle stairs, mine pillars, tomb floors, and catacombs/iron maidens, optimized bear traps, and — most relevant to crash watchers — rebuilt shader (PSO) caches and world HLODs. The notes name no crash fix, so our tracked crash statuses are unchanged pending community recurrence data.

PS5 Hotfix — October 16, 2026
A PS5 platform hotfix for the Collector softlock and stuttering; Xbox and PC patches are coming shortly, per the developer.
Two days after Hotfix 1.000.012, the developer announced a PS5 patch on Reddit — the Steam news feed carried no announcement at verification time (it still showed the October 13 hotfix as latest), so this patch has not gone through the Steam channel. Two named fixes: stuttering addressed, including around death and pick-up moments, and "Fixed softlock when interacting with the collector" (verbatim from the notes) — the softlock half of the night-mode Collector issue tracked as #54 in our fix center, where the two-layer platform status lives. The same announcement re-confirms Bring My Ova Back to Me is still not fixed, with a fix planned for next week's patch (#24), and says Xbox and PC patches are coming shortly. The patch is confirmed as PS5 build 1.000.013 — the announcement itself carries no number, but two secondary sources (MP1st and UpdateCrazy, both October 16) name the build; the Xbox and PC build numbers remain unannounced.
(Source: developer announcement on r/MortalShell, October 16 — level 4, RSS-verified. Version 1.000.013 (PS5) is double-sourced at the secondary level as of October 18 — MP1st and UpdateCrazy both name the build, so the number is now written in; whether the missing-trade-UI form of issue #54 is covered stays open. Logged as conflict CF-R8-01, version half adjudicated; UpdateCrazy's all-platforms claim is not adopted, Xbox/PC stay pending.)
Rotten Autumn — October 20, 2026
The largest free content update so far: Photo Mode, 15 new dungeons, 10 new Tarstones, and an alternative soundtrack.
Rotten Autumn, a large free content update, went live on October 20 as version 1.000.014 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox. The content list, section by section from the developer's announcement: a new Photo Mode that lets players capture and frame their runs; fifteen new dungeons, expanding the dungeon pool from 36 to 51 — a nearly 50% increase (the 36-to-51 figure follows the press transcription of the announcement); new Shades for every Shell; ten new Tarstones, including one exclusive to the Sheep; a New Alternative Soundtrack performed by Sakis Tolis, vocalist of Rotting Christ, replacing the original score; on the graphics side, a Nightmode lighting preset and a new Overkill setting; and seasonal treats — a pumpkin helmet for the Harbinger, an Impervious Lute skin with a new track, and lost Shell ghosts that can now leave cryptic notes. The update also ships polish and bug fixes, and the announcement closes by teasing more to come (no schedule given).
For Tarstone players: the ten new stones are registered as count placeholders on our Tarstones guide — the announcement gives the number and the Sheep-exclusive detail but names no individual stone, so every effect value stays pending in-game verification and nothing is fabricated. The announcement's closing line "there is no sheep dungeon" is a developer joke, not a content line.
(Source: developer announcement on Steam News — level 5, RSS-verified in full October 21. Version 1.000.014 corroborated by double secondary sources — MP1st and UpdateCrazy's 1.000.014 patch-notes page; SteamDB patchnotes records the October 20 13:06 UTC release. The PC-side build number is not separately stated in any collected source, so the cross-platform 1.000.014 anchor is used. UpdateCrazy's "Black Metal Mode" wording is not adopted — the announcement says "New Alternative Soundtrack"; its "brought back" phrasing for the Impervious Lute is likewise not adopted as evidence the item was removed.)
How we track Mortal Shell 2 patch notes
Five evidence layers, and we label which one every claim comes from.
Patch coverage on this page is built from a five-layer evidence chain, and every entry above is tagged with its strongest layer:
- Developer-published announcements — Cold Symmetry's own posts for Hotfix 1.0, Hotfix 2.0, the Week 1 Update, the Adaptive Difficulty update, Hotfix 1.000.010, Hotfix 1.000.011, Hotfix 1.000.012, and Rotten Autumn (the strongest source we use); developer posts on other channels, like the Oct 16 PS5 hotfix announced on Reddit, sit one layer lower as level-4 sources.
- Console build numbers — platform versioning like PS5 1.000.006/1.000.008/1.000.009/1.000.010/1.000.011/1.000.012/1.000.013 and the cross-platform 1.000.014, corroborated by press coverage of the console rollout.
- Double-sourced press coverage — outlets such as Rock, Paper, Shotgun, PCGamesN, and GameSpew reporting patch content that matches the developer's notes.
- Cross-referenced community transcriptions — used for gaps like Balance Patch 1's thin developer notes, and always labeled community-reported.
- Conflicts, logged not hidden — when the community reports a change that does not appear in the developer's published notes (such as the claimed Duality Stone nerf in the September 5 patch), we log the conflict with no confirmed value rather than picking a side.
This is the same discipline our Fix Center applies to its 52 tracked issues, and it is why some entries here carry fewer specifics than fan-wiki competitors: where the evidence stops, our patch notes stop too — and it is why the 1.000.011 and 1.000.012 version numbers are tagged single-secondary-source rather than stated flat.
Patch notes FAQ
Quick answers on versions, platforms, and the next update.
What is the current Mortal Shell 2 version?
The current build is Rotten Autumn, version 1.000.014, released October 20, 2026 across Steam, PS5 and Xbox. Before it: Hotfix 1.000.012 (October 14, cross-platform) and a PS5-only platform hotfix on October 16 (Collector softlock and stuttering; PS5 build 1.000.013). If your build shows 1.000.012 or lower, you are on the previous hotfix or earlier and should let the patch download finish before troubleshooting any crash issues.
Has the Mortal Shell 2 next patch been announced?
No dated next patch has been announced. As of October 21, 2026, Cold Symmetry has not announced a next patch date, version, or roadmap. What the developer has said: the Rotten Autumn announcement (October 20) closes by teasing more content to come, with no schedule given; the Bring My Ova Back to Me achievement fix said to be planned for "next week's patch" has not been named as fixed in any announcement we have verified. This page updates within 24 hours of any announcement.
Do PS5 and Xbox get the same patches as PC?
Yes in content, later in timing, with different build numbers. Hotfix 2.0 reached PS5 as 1.000.006 within about a day, the Week 1 Update reached console as 1.000.008 roughly three days after PC, the Adaptive Difficulty update shipped as 1.000.009 alongside PC, Hotfix 1.000.010 shipped as PS5 build 1.000.010 alongside PC, Hotfix 1.000.011 shipped as PS5 build 1.000.011 alongside PC (per MP1st's coverage), and Hotfix 1.000.012 shipped as PS5 build 1.000.012 (again per MP1st). Each console build also carries platform-specific fixes, like the PS5 screenshot-blocking fix reported around the 1.000.009 rollout.
Which patch fixed the most crashes?
The Week 1 Update was the broadest stability patch — it covered enemy spawning, audio, save loading, and shutdown crashes plus a shader-stutter fix and a reworked Frame Generation. Hotfix 2.0 handled the launch-week wave, including PS5 input and save fixes. Several issues remain on Workaround or Pending status even after the September 5 update; the live list is in our crash fix center.
Why do some patch entries have less detail than others?
Because the developer's own notes vary in depth. Hotfix 1.0 shipped with no detailed changelog, and Balance Patch 1's details come from cross-referenced community transcriptions rather than a developer-published post. We mark those entries as community-reported instead of padding them with unverified specifics.
Do these patches change the tier lists on this site?
Yes — balance patches are exactly why tier lists change. Balance Patch 1 buffed Parasitic, Grudge, Bulwark, Clerik's, and Squall; the Week 1 Update buffed heavy weapons and reworked the Trebuchaxe; and the Adaptive Difficulty update buffed Sariel's Thornfall along with Affliction and Agonize. Our shell tier list and weapon tier list note which patch their evaluations are current through.
